The Skill Building program offers services for adults with developmental disabilities. These services help to strengthen their skills and level of independence.Skill Building offers people a place to learn daily. Each person has a personal plan developed around their needs.

This plan, called a person centered plan of service (PCP), may include training in a classroom or activities in the community. It could also include job opportunities.

Program

Work opportunities could be transitional work experience (TWE), supported employment (SE), or independent employment (IE). Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit is dedicated to helping our community.We provide skilled labor to businesses on a project, part-time and full-time basis. We help adults who have a hard time getting or keeping a job and give them the skills to lead a productive life. We help adults who have trouble in social situations and help them overcome their challenges.We run stores that feature gently used clothing and household items donated by the members of the Metro-Detroit community, just like you! Proceeds from all sales at our Goodwill stores support the mission of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit to help local people become trained, trusted and ready to work.We also accept monetary gifts which help support our workers and workforce development services.

At Pro Action, we’re firm believers that people have what it takes to create the future they want for themselves, even in the face of challenges and set-backs. Pro Action programs in the Prosperous Futures domain help pave the path to prosperity and support people as they bounce back from adversity. These programs provide guidance and tools for job seekers to find and secure good jobs, while helping them develop skills and supporting their success in the workforce.

In addition, some programs help people work toward financial goals and build assets. Getting a job is the main path for most people to provide for themselves and their families. Our Senior Community Service Employment Program matches job seekers with a community service assignment based on employment interests and goals. Participants work 20 hours per week and earn minimum wage while gaining experience, increasing skills and building self-confidence.
